’The 74’

This is the first painting in the construction series titled ‘The 74’ named for its location at East 74th Street and Third Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Viewed from the studio, the rising apartment tower stood across the street. At first, attention was drawn not only to the upward scale of construction, but to the communal rhythm of the workers moving floor to floor — a shared sense of labor, precision, and purpose.
